Exposure

Our Class uses multiple brands and models of cameras. You will be responsible for knowing how to use the camera and adjust its settings. Mr.D will help you understand this process but a little trial and error may be necessary. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to see Mr.D with those questions.

The Exposure Triangle

There are three main elements that need to be considered when playing around with exposure. Each of the three aspects of the triangle relate to light and how it enters and interacts with the camera and its recording device. For FILM Cameras the would be the FILM EMULSION, and for DIGITAL Cameras, the camera sensor.

The three elements are:

  1. ISO – the measure of sensitivity to light

  2. Aperture – the size of the opening in the lens

  3. Shutter Speed – the amount of time that the shutter is open

It is at the intersection of these three elements that an image’s exposure is worked out.
